Table Top Flashback: Boot Hill (1979) and Basic D&D (1981)
Admission: Free to the public
Flashback: the year is 1979. Susan B. Anthony is on the dollar, My Sharona is on the radio, and Boot Hill is on the game shelf.
Join the Portland Retro Roleplayers for a session of smokin' six-gun action with TSR's RPG of the Wild West. Boot Hill is a simple game by current RPG standards; character stats are geared toward combat abilities and the 'role-playing' rules are very open. This scenario is designed for 4-10 players, who will generate their own characters and choose individual roles of the denizens of Promise City, New Mexico Territory. (Note: effort will be made to provide roles for minority and female characters outside the racist and sexist stereotypes of the western genre.) Players will be expected to help drive the action, and may find themselves on opposite sides of the law, or caught in the middle. Character death is possible, perhaps even likely, once the shooting starts. So grab your percentile dice and saddle up!For those who may prefer some fantasy action, also on offer will be an adventure using TSR's 1981 edition of the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set. This is the classic dungeon delving adventure game distilled down to its core elements. Each player will create a character in a few minutes, and then as a group form the party to go on an adventure! This evening, your party will be going up Against the Cult of the Reptile God! The isolated village of Orlane is dying, a steady decline has become sharp, and you've heard the rumors from the fleeing villagers, who speak of a tomb unearthed. Will your party save the village, damn the village, or just take the treasure and leave? We shall find out.
