On Friday, October 19, join Powell's Books and Literary Arts in welcoming David Byrne and Carrie Brownstein for an evening of conversation about music and Byrne's new book, How Music Works.
Though he's worked in various media, including film, photography, opera, and nonfiction, and has received Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe awards, David Byrne is best known as the frontman for the band Talking Heads, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Carrie Brownstein is an American musician, writer, and actress, best known as a guitarist and vocalist in the band Sleater-Kinney and more recently as costar of the sketch comedy TV show Portlandia.
A buoyant celebration of a subject Byrne has thought about all of his life, How Music Works is a brainy, irresistible adventure and an impassioned argument about music's liberating, life-affirming power.
