"Conan! What is best in life?"
"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women."
That's a mission statement, right there.
Closing out the cortandfatboy Midnight Movie's Summer of Schwarzenegger is John Milius' feverishly weird fantasy epic, Conan the Barbarian. Co-written by Oliver Stone, and co-starring James Earl Jones as mean snake-person-thing Thulsa Doom, Conan isn't exactly a faithful adaptation of Robert E. Howard's anti-hero - for one, Howard's Conan can talk - but of all the movies Arnold has been in over the course of his adventures in America, Conan might be the most ambitious. It's easy to blow up some miniatures and shoot guns at dudes in rubber costumes. It's another to have Conan tell God to go pound sand, sucker-punch a camel, and watch James Earl Jones turn into a snake all in the same 30 minute stretch of movie.
Doors open at 10pm, a pre-show entertainment reel plays at 10:30pm, and the Crom-cursing, Camel-punching craziness begins playing at 11pm. Attendees who are disruptive/disrespectful will be taken to a desert where they will push a wheel in a circle for 20 years while really loud orchestral music plays.Poster art by The! Thomas! Wilson!
