History Pub:
The Columbia River Gorge: Portland's Playground?

Presented by Carl Abbott, Portland State University

Admission: Free to the public

July's History Pub is all about the history of place many of us will visit throughout the summer: the Columbia River Gorge. Close to 300,000 acres of the Gorge were protected as a National Scenic Area through congressional legislation in 1986. Join us at History Pub to learn about how and why the legislation was enacted and what the work of enforcing it has been like.

Dr. Carl Abbott will give a talk titled "The Columbia River Gorge: Portland's Playground?" followed by a discussion from Art Carroll, who served with the U.S. Forest Service as the Area Manager for the Gorge Scenic Area for almost a decade.
