Join Amanda Palmer and local musicians Alameda and The Doubleclicks as they bring their talent to the aid of the people of Saabaalong, Ghana during this fundraising event from Literacy Bridge.
Amanda Palmer has been making music for more than twenty years, and recently shattered records for crowd-funding musicians on Kickstarter. She's an artist, a performer, and an adventurer, and Literacy Bridge is thrilled to be able to welcome her to Portland to celebrate her new album, make some music, and raise the money needed to bring the Maternal and Child Health Program to Ghana.
Alameda is a Portland-based outfit, founded by singer/guitarist Stirling Myles and cellist Jessie Dettwiler. They blend orchestral arrangements with modern instrumentation, blurring the lines of genres and moods and offering a lush backdrop for Myles' folk-inspired songs.
The Doubleclicks are a nerd folk duo based in Portland, Oregon. When they aren’t playing Dungeons and Dragons, they write songs and play them on cello and ukulele.
Literacy Bridge has been successfully helping farmers improve their crop yields through their Talking Book Program, and are now reaching out to mothers and children through a targeted Maternal and Child Health Program. Saabaalong is a village of 1,059 people, 95% of whom are subsistence farmers. The cost of bringing this program into the first 10 villages in the Upper West Region of Ghana is $50,000 – only $5,000 per village.
