Re-Run Theater Presents the Original, Unedited 1978 Battlestar Galactica Pilot
Admission: $5.00
There are those who believe that life here, began out there… Re Run Theater is very proud to present the original unedited 1978 ABC TV Premiere Event that started it all: Battlestar Galactica. Now, arguably third only to “Star Trek” and “Dr. Who” in popularity among TV science fiction series, here is where the story of space genocide, survival, political strife and the word “Frack” began. After a thousand year war with the robot race of Cylons, the human race is duped into believing peace is at hand only to have their military fleet lured into an ambush and destroyed.
With their home planets devastated and only one Battlestar left to protect the remnants of humanity, the survivors are forced to flee into deep space, pursued by the relentless Cylon war machine. Their last hope: find the legendary lost colony remembered only from ancient writings; a distant planet far out in the universe known as Earth. Featuring an all star TV cast including Dirk Benedict (The A Team), Lorne Greene (Bonanza), Richard Hatch (The Streets of San Francisco) and Jane Seymore (Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman) and the same special effects and art design team responsible for “Star Wars”, the Battlestar Galactica pilot was unlike anything seen on TV before.
Although the main plot points are the same, the original show is very different from the beloved re-imagined Sci Fi Channel series of the last decade. This is the 70′s in outer space complete with alien disco singers (four eyes and two mouths!), Cylons that sound like Mr. Roboto, feathered hair and big medallions. For the sake of authenticity and Re Run Theater’s fine tradition, we will be presenting this epic with a pre show and intermission of vintage 1970′s and early 80′s TV commercials.
