OMSI Star Party: Venus Transit Viewing
Admission: Free to the public
A rare celestial event called the Transit of Venus takes place June 5, not to be repeated until 2117.
During this viewing party hosted by OMSI and the Rose City Astronomers Club, Venus will pass directly in front of the sun from Earth's perspective, appearing as a small, slowly moving black dot. For Portland, the greatest transit will occur at 6:29 p.m. Filtered solar telescopes and special viewing glasses will be available for safely viewing the sun.
