A man who needs no introduction -- but who we'll introduce as John C. Reilly Ė has released not one but TWO Third Man singles recently, John & Tom: "Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar" b/w "Lonesome Yodel Blues #2" (TMR112) finds John's duet with Tom Brosseau sung in close harmony as they perform two songs originally by The Delmore Brothers.
Becky & John's "I'll Be There If You Ever Want" b/w "I'm Making Plans" (TMR113) sees John paired with Becky Stark (Lavender Diamond) and swerves more in the classic country vein taking in tunes originally performed by Ray Price and Dolly Parton/Porter Wagoner.
Welcome to the John Reilly and friends roots review. Roots music. Itís just another way of saying good old music that has survived the passing of time. Folk, traditional, bluegrass, close-harmony, country. Whatever labels people have tried to stick to good music through the ages are irrelevant. Itís that song that touches something deeper, that makes ancient sense to your soul. The tree of music has deep roots which go back to these songs. Conceived and sung around lonesome campfires, rain- soaked ships decks, whispering mountain pines or dusty barren farmland they stand the test of time and keep our souls alive. Join your host John C. Reilly and some incredible singers and musicians as they summon the spirits of the tree of song, from deep down in the roots. You just might feel better somehow.
