"Power vs. Fish on the Columbia: Building a Hydropower System and the Death of Celilo Falls"
Presenters: Bill Lang and Pat Courtney Gold

History Pub is a free event sponsored by McMenamins, Holy Names Heritage Center, and Oregon Historical Society. Canned food donations will be accepted for the Oregon Food Bank.

This two part presentation will connect engineering to culture in a discussion about the history of the Columbia River. Pat Courtney Gold will discuss the 12,000 year Native culture, emphasizing the importance of the River to the Sacred Salmon, both past and present. Bill Lang will continue the presentation by talking about 1949: The Year of Decision, which focuses on the choices federal, state and local authorities made about developing the Columbia River and the hydropower system, and why it may have been the last major chance to preserve salmon runs.
