Portland's Historic Chinatown: The Gambling, The Girls and the Opium
Doug Kenck-Crispin, the ribald resident historian of ORhistory.com will be presenting a lecture about the seedy underbelly of Portland's Historic Chinatown - the Gambling, the Girls and the Opium. We'll also take a look at the Portland Police in this era, kind of like Nick Cage in "Bad Lieutenant," but 100 years ago, in Portland, and without the crack.
We'll check out some historic photos, tell some stories of sin and vice, and examine some real live opium pipes!
Special Guest, Jim Hill, author of the graphic novel "The Dead Don't Die" will be live sketching the event!
Can't make it but interested in the topic? Hear the Kick Ass Oregon History podcasts the lecture is based upon: Episode One and Episode Two are available now. Episode Three will be released this weekend, here and Episode Four will be revealed towards the end of the month!
